Our (realistic) basement playroom

Our basement is a fun space for the kids to hang out in, watch movies and play with toys. It also holds our washer/dryer, work out equipment and an extra bedroom (nana’s room when she visits).

This space needs to be functional and inviting for little ones.

Open shelving keeps toys and puzzles organized and easy to access. I created a little reading and play nook in the opposite corner using wooden crates snagged at Walmart for $15 each.

Our IKEA kitchen turned into a cafe with letter stickers and open shelving. This is one piece we’ve owned for years and have gotten a lot of mileage on! Every kid at every stage loves the play kitchen. Adding a few new things to it once in a while gives a fresh perspective!

The play slide was Harland’s Christmas gift and he loves it! He’s still nervous to slide down on his own, but will happily go down on his belly.

The play mats are a mix of old and new. The black and white polka dot is double sided and extremely durable. It was my big splurge back in the day ($200). The others are from Walmart and Canadian Tire.

It’s everything we need the space to be for this stage in our lives! The kids have given their approval!
